Silent Thyroiditis

Silent thyroiditis is an inflammation of the thyroid gland that occurs without pain and that can transiently cause periods of excess followed by a decrease in thyroid activity.

How it evolves: It usually goes through changing phases: first a passing increase in thyroid hormone, then a stage of low activity and, frequently, a recovery of function.

Possible symptoms:

• Palpitations or nervousness in the initial phase
• Fatigue or cold intolerance later on
• Absence of neck pain
