Developmental Coordination Disorder

Developmental coordination disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition in which a child has a marked difficulty coordinating movements, without another illness that explains it, which affects everyday and motor tasks.

How is it noticed? clumsiness when running or jumping, difficulty buttoning clothes, writing, using utensils, or learning activities that require dexterity, with performance below what is expected for their age.

When should it be evaluated? when these difficulties persist and interfere with school, sports, or daily play, an evaluation helps guide the right support.

Which professionals are involved? the pediatrician performs the initial assessment and rules out other causes, and the physical therapist works on coordination and motor skills. Sharing these observations with them makes it possible to design support tailored to each child.
