Midface Trauma

Midface trauma is an injury that affects the central region of the face, where the bones of the nose, the cheekbones, the orbits, and the upper jaw are located. It is usually caused by direct blows, falls, or accidents.

When to see a doctor? After a significant blow to the face, a prompt evaluation is advisable, especially if there is deformity, bleeding, vision disturbances, or difficulty breathing through the nose.

Common symptoms: pain and swelling in the central area of the face, bruising, nosebleeds, and, at times, changes in the bite or in sensation.

Which specialist treats it? In the initial emergency, the emergency physician steps in, and the neurosurgeon takes part when there may be involvement near nervous structures; in children the pediatrician assists with the follow-up. In the case of a significant facial injury, the most prudent thing is to seek professional care immediately.
