Neuroendocrine Tumors

These are neoplasms that originate in cells capable of producing hormones and that can appear in different organs, such as the digestive tract, the lungs, or the pancreas.

How they present: They vary greatly depending on their location; some release substances that cause symptoms such as flushing, diarrhea, or changes in blood pressure, while others grow silently.

Common causes: In many cases no trigger is identified; at times they are associated with hereditary syndromes.

Which specialist treats them? Their study is usually multidisciplinary and includes the nuclear medicine specialist for functional imaging and, depending on the location, the neurosurgeon. When symptoms are persistent and without a clear explanation, a specialized evaluation is key.
