Uvulitis

Uvulitis is the inflammation of the uvula, that small piece of tissue that hangs at the back of the throat. It can be due to infections, irritation, or allergic reactions.

Common symptoms: a sensation of a foreign body at the back of the mouth, discomfort or pain when swallowing, and sometimes changes in the voice.

Contributing factors: throat infections, dryness, irritants, and certain allergies.

Which specialist treats it? The dentist can assess discomfort in the oral cavity and offer guidance on the cause; when it's associated with a broader throat infection, it usually requires additional medical evaluation. If the swelling makes it hard to swallow or breathe, seek care without delay.
