Variola Major and Minor

Smallpox was a serious infectious disease caused by a virus, which occurred in two forms known as major smallpox and minor smallpox, distinguished by their severity. Thanks to worldwide vaccination campaigns, it is today considered eradicated and no longer circulates among the population.

How it presented: it ran with high fever, general malaise, and a characteristic skin rash that evolved into fluid-filled lesions. The minor form was usually milder than the major.
