What does a neonatologist do?

They monitor the newborn's adaptation, care for premature babies or those with complications, and follow up on the problems specific to the first days.

Conditions treated

Among the conditions they evaluate are the premature baby and newborn jaundice, as well as infections and respiratory problems such as bronchiolitis, pharyngitis, and pneumonia. They also treat common complaints of the first months, such as infant colic and gastroesophageal reflux in babies, and take part in monitoring pediatric asthma.

When to seek care?

• Babies born preterm or with low birth weight.
• Yellowish coloring of the newborn's skin.
• Difficulty breathing or feeding in the first weeks.
