The spider angioma, also called spider vein or spider nevus, is a small dilation of superficial blood vessels that forms a reddish mark with a central point from which fine branches radiate, resembling the legs of a spider.

How it looks: it usually appears on the face, the neck, or the trunk; when the central point is pressed it tends to blanch and then fills back up with color.

Context: it can occur in isolation and be benign, or be related to hormonal changes or other conditions worth evaluating.

Who evaluates it? An initial review can be done by the general practitioner, and the study of the blood vessels falls to the vascular surgeon. If the lesion appears in a striking way or multiplies, it is worth discussing it with a professional for a proper evaluation.
