About the Doctor

Dr. Carlos Campillo is a psychiatrist with a humanistic orientation and extensive clinical experience, who uses a medical-psychological approach in treating his patients. This approach emphasizes the particularities of the person and their environment, without reducing them to a mere disease perspective. He is a specialist and holds a master's in social psychiatry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He completed epidemiology studies at the Institute of Psychiatry of the University of London and at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the same city. He has served as professor of medical psychology and graduate studies at the Facultad de Medicina of UNAM, Hospital Español, the Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía Manuel Velasco Suárez (INNN), and Hospital Bernardino Álvarez. He has been Head of the Psychiatry Department of Hospital Español, Head of the Department of Epidemiological and Social Research at the Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente, Director of the Psychiatry Service of the INNN, and head of the Psychiatric Care Services of the Secretaría de Salud. He has served as president of the Asociación Mexicana de Psiquiatría, the Consejo Mexicano de Psiquiatría, the Asociación Mexicana de Neuropsiquiatría, the Asociación Iberoamericana de Estudios de los Problemas de Alcohol y Drogas, and the Academia Nacional de Medicina. He is a corresponding member of the academies of medicine of Madrid and Barcelona and a temporary advisor to the World Health Organization on alcohol and drug issues. He received honorable mention on his degree and master's exams, and in 2017 received the Ramón de la Fuente award from the Consejo de Salubridad General. He belongs to more than a dozen professional associations in Mexico and abroad and has more than 160 published research and scientific outreach works.
