Dr. Daniela Chávez Heres
About the Doctor
This is a psychobiological approach to help people recognize their resources by integrating body, mind, emotions, and energy. It is an invitation to get to know what our body is telling us and learn to live in harmony with it. Sometimes patients present with emotional or physical pain, as well as difficulties in thinking. This is a practice where the body is seen as "a whole." Both the Somatic Experiencing approach and Craniosacral Therapy help each person recognize the real needs of the present moment. The important thing is to listen to each patient based on their own needs and to expand our listening, since in general approaches tend to be analytical without recognition of the body and its integration. In Somatic Experiencing the work is done seated as in traditional psychotherapy, and it is very effective online. In Craniosacral Therapy the work is done on a table with the patient fully clothed, placing the hands on anatomical locations that awaken the body's natural response. Each organism is different, and although some patients take longer to see results, in general important benefits are achieved in a short time, and sometimes in the first session. The work helps regulate organic functions, stabilize the nervous system, regulate emotions, calm the mind, and release the energy the body generates when we feel threatened. An example of CST is work on the jaw and floor of the mouth releasing tensions that can produce symptoms such as headaches and ringing in the ears. At the emotional level there are also tissue restrictions such as the sensation of heaviness in the chest. The work depends on what the patient needs, and sometimes they come with specific pain or not. In specific cases (chronic or degenerative) such as gastritis, colitis, headaches, Parkinson's, among others, the progress is very surprising. As for emotions, this is important work in releasing old and/or held-in emotions without the need to talk. An example of SE is work with cases of panic attacks, which often involve involuntary movements, responses, or thoughts that tend to trigger a vicious cycle. From this approach we learn to recognize and support, from the body, the activations (autonomic survival responses: fight, flight, or freeze) and this allows us to connect with our resources and self-regulate to find our balance.
