Dr. Emma Cremonesi Manifacio is a physician who graduated from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, completing her specialty in Ophthalmology at the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales para los Trabajadores del Estado. Subsequently, at Hospital Conde de Valenciana, she graduated as a sub-specialist in Refractive Surgery and Corneal Transplant; a degree also obtained at the University of British Columbia, Canada, two years later. From 2002 to 2005 she was in charge of the corneal transplant program at the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales para los Trabajadores del Estado at a third-level hospital, where large quantities of corneas are stored, distributed, recovered, and transplanted. Her special interests include diseases of the ocular surface, management of complex corneal infections, keratoconus, and new trends in corneal transplant and refractive surgery. She has presented research studies at various national and international forums on topics such as: elevation-based corneal topography applied to candidates for refractive surgery, high-frequency corneal ultrasound in candidates for LASIK, medical and surgical management of LASIK complications, among many others.
