About the Doctor

I am Dr. Ethel Gabriela Fluchaire Bernal, a physician specialized in Rehabilitation Medicine and Advanced Specialty in Electrodiagnostic Medicine, both from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) School of Medicine, and completed at the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social and the Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación. Having trained in the Advanced Specialty in Electrodiagnosis, I am part of the group of physicians who can best perform electrodiagnostic studies such as electromyography, nerve conduction studies, evoked potentials, the Jolly test, among others. I have more than 10 years of experience in public hospitals and private practice performing electrophysiological studies (electromyography, nerve conduction velocities, evoked potentials); as well as in specialized rehabilitation medical care, working together with my team of physical therapists on the clinical care of patients. The studies we perform must be carried out and led by a physician, not technicians or lab staff, since there is no single protocol for all patients — the study always includes a complete medical assessment in order to approach it with the study requested and obtain the best results to guide diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. The medical consultation addresses conditions that cause pain, functional limitation, or symptoms at the muscular, ligamentous, bone level, or in nerve structures such as nerves, nerve roots, spine, etc., carrying out a diagnostic and therapeutic medical approach and, when necessary, an approach through physical therapy. I currently hold an active recertification from the Colegio Mexicano de Medicina de Rehabilitación and am an active member of the Colegio Mexicano de Medicina de Electrodiagnóstico, Medicina Física y Rehabilitación (COMEFYR) as well as the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM). I have been the lead instructor of diplomas and courses at the national and international level in my field, as well as a speaker/lecturer nationally and internationally. In addition to being a reference as part of teaching my colleagues and physicians in training, I am constantly training and updating through attendance at various national and international courses and conferences. In this way, I ensure that the studies and diagnostic approaches I provide to my patients go beyond a mechanized study without openness to differential diagnoses, carrying out the studies and addressing their clinical problem in the broadest, most complete way possible to provide the best electrophysiological diagnosis.
