About the Doctor
I am a general surgeon, graduate of the Facultad de Medicina of UNAM, of Hospital Manuel Gea González, and of the Universidad de Tübingen, Germany, where I completed a doctorate in Minimally Invasive Surgery. I have extensive experience in visceral and digestive tract surgery at university hospitals in that country and in Spain. I see surgery as a therapeutic resource that should be indicated in the appropriate situations so the patient truly receives the benefits of treatment. Although when a surgery is scheduled, much revolves around the date it will take place, I am convinced that the patient's participation in the protocols we use for preparation and recovery is just as important as the procedure itself. That is why I place particular emphasis on explaining everything to the patient about the condition, the procedure, and the alternatives, as well as the risks and goals we aim to achieve. Respect for patient autonomy is, to me, as important as adherence to safety protocols around their surgery by my team and by the hospital where the procedure is performed. Through my experience I have come to understand that these principles, along with honesty and open communication, are essential factors for patients to obtain the expected benefit from a surgery.
