Dr. José Carlos Rodríguez Betancourt

About the Doctor

Dr. Jose Carlos Rodriguez Betancourt is a Surgeon and Physician (Medico Cirujano y Partero) from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and UNAM. He completed postgraduate studies in general surgery and neurosurgery at Georgetown University and Howard University at the general hospital of Washington, D.C., U.S.A. He later did his residency in Individual and Group Psychoanalytic Psychiatry at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas, U.S.A., now merged with Baylor University in Houston, Texas, where he had excellent teachers such as Dr. Otto Kernberg and Leonard Horwitz. Upon his return to the city of Guadalajara, he was head of Psychiatry at the Angel Leano hospital of the UAG, where he directed the undergraduate program and served as a professor in the postgraduate program. He also began his private practice with all types of psychiatric patients, using psychoanalytic psychotherapy. He has been a visiting professor at different universities both in Mexico and in the U.S.A. He has given courses and lectures on mental science and psychoanalysis at different academic venues. In August 2005 he was awarded a prize for the best scientific essay during the APM national congress in Los Cabos. Dr. Rodriguez is also a writer and has published books and articles in many journals. He currently continues his private practice in psychiatry and psychotherapy.
