Dr. Mónica Sayuri Ramos Imuro
About the Doctor
I studied a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at the Escuela de Dietetica y Nutricion of ISSSTE. Afterward, I did my Master's in Management and Operation of Food and Beverage Establishments. I know, it has nothing to do with it, but the thing is that after finishing my degree, I refused to have a practice or work in a hospital, because my internships were super frustrating. I started teaching at the undergraduate level and at the same time I also studied the specialty of Gastronomy. I love cooking and eating. I continued teaching and having my practice halfway. Until I found my calling in 2014, when I began receiving pregnant patients who stayed with me for their postpartum follow-up. So, I decided that I had to specialize instead of continuing to study on my own. In 2015 I was certified as a pre- and postnatal exercise trainer by the American Fitness Professionals & Associates and in 2017 I completed the Diploma in Maternal and Child Medical Nutrition from the Instituto Mexicano de Nutriologia Clinica. That same year I obtained the Nutrition Care Process & Medical Nutrition Therapy Certification. The following year I studied to become a Breastfeeding Advisor at the Asociacion Prolactancia Materna together with the Confederacion Nacional de Pediatria de Mexico, and in 2019 I completed the theoretical-practical course as a Breastfeeding Advisor from Prolactar, issued by the Spanish Ministry of Health. In 2018 I studied the Diploma in Cuisines and Food Culture in Mexico from the Escuela Nacional de Antropologia e Historia, presenting an ethnographic work on postpartum nutrition and why it seems that there are moms who "can do it all" and others who cannot. This diploma was without a doubt a turning point in my view of nutrition as a more human field of study, and it allowed me to set aside the more scientific and statistical part. It opened my eyes to the qualitative and comprehensive study of people, instead of seeing them as numerical results and quantifiable goals. So, I am currently in the process of certification as an Intuitive Eating counselor through The Original Intuitive Eating Pros, a school developed by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, pioneers and creators of this scientifically-backed concept.
