Anemia of Chronic Disease

The hematologist is the go-to specialist for anemia of chronic disease, a decrease in red blood cells or hemoglobin that appears as a consequence of prolonged conditions, such as persistent infections, sustained inflammation, or kidney diseases.

What is it? It is not an isolated anemia, but rather the reflection of another underlying condition that alters the use of iron and the production of red blood cells in the body.
