Vaginal Cancer

Vaginal cancer is a growth of malignant cells in the tissues that form the vaginal canal. It is uncommon and can originate in the vagina itself or spread from nearby structures.

When to see a doctor? It is advisable to seek care given vaginal bleeding outside of menstruation or after menopause, unusual discharge, discomfort when urinating, or a sensation of a lump. An early evaluation usually makes follow-up easier.

Frequent symptoms: Abnormal bleeding, persistent discharge, pelvic pain, or pain during intercourse.

Which specialist treats it? The initial evaluation is usually handled by a gynecologist or obstetrician, and when cancer is confirmed or suspected the gynecologic oncologist, the oncologist, and the radiation oncologist take part.
