Breast Disease

Breast disease encompasses the set of conditions that can affect breast tissue, from benign changes to lesions that require investigation. It is a broad term that groups together different conditions of the breast.

Possible manifestations: lumps or thickening, changes in the texture or color of the skin, nipple discharge, or discomfort that varies throughout the cycle. Many of these changes are benign, but they warrant evaluation.

When is a review advisable? With any new or persistent change in the breast, imaging studies help characterize the tissue and guide appropriate follow-up.

Which specialist treats it? The radiologist takes part in interpreting the breast imaging studies and collaborates with other professionals in its evaluation. The best course of action is not to postpone a review when a change in the breast is noticed.
