Osgood-Schlatter Disease

Osgood-Schlatter disease is an irritation of the area where the kneecap tendon attaches to the upper part of the tibia, just below the knee. It is typical of children and teenagers in stages of growth and sports activity.

When to see a doctor? An evaluation is advisable if there is pain in the front of the knee that increases with exercise, especially when running, jumping, or climbing stairs.

Common symptoms: Pain and tenderness below the kneecap, swelling, or a small bump in that area, which usually improves with rest.
