De Quervain Tenosynovitis

Seeing an orthopedist or a hand surgeon is standard when pain appears on the thumb side, since De Quervain's disease is the condition that most often explains that discomfort. It is an inflammation of the tendons that move the thumb as they pass through the wrist.

What it is: It is a tenosynovitis that irritates the sheath through which certain thumb tendons slide, causing pain when using it.

Common symptoms:

• Pain on the side of the wrist near the thumb
• Discomfort when gripping objects or turning the wrist
• A sensation of rubbing or swelling in the area
