Bacteremic Shock

Bacteremic shock is a serious situation in which a bacterial infection in the blood triggers a response from the body that compromises blood pressure and the supply to the organs. It is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Warning signs: Fever or very low temperature, confusion, rapid breathing, low blood pressure, cold or mottled skin, and decreased urine output.

What to do? With these signs in a person with an infection, going immediately to an emergency department is a priority; it is not a condition to observe at home.

Who treats it? The emergency physician provides the initial care and the critical care and intensive care specialist continues the hospital management. Recognizing these signs early and seeking urgent medical help is essential.
