Marker X Syndrome

Marker X syndrome, also known as fragile X chromosome syndrome, is a hereditary genetic condition that affects development and can be accompanied by learning and language difficulties. It is one of the most common hereditary causes of intellectual disability.

Common manifestations: speech delay, attention difficulties, repetitive behaviors, and, at times, particular physical features.

Causes: it originates from an alteration in a gene on the X chromosome that is passed down from generation to generation.

Who provides support? The pediatrician coordinates the follow-up of child development, the speech therapist works on communication and language, and the psychologist supports the behavioral and emotional area. A joint and timely approach favors the learning and integration of the child.
