Tracheitis

Tracheitis is inflammation of the trachea, the passage that carries air from the larynx to the bronchi. It usually has an infectious origin and often appears after an upper respiratory illness.

Common symptoms: cough, which may be dry or hoarse, discomfort or pain in the chest or neck area, and sometimes fever or difficulty breathing.

When to see a doctor? With a persistent cough, pain when breathing, or any breathing difficulty, especially if the symptoms worsen.

Which specialist treats it? The otolaryngologist evaluates the upper airway, and the pulmonologist handles conditions of the lower airways. When symptoms are intense or do not improve, it is advisable to contact a professional for a proper evaluation.
