What does a pulmonologist do?

They study lung function with breathing tests and chest imaging, identify the cause of a cough or shortness of breath, and follow up on conditions that require long-term management.

Conditions treated

Among the frequent reasons for consultation are asthma and COPD, infections such as pneumonia and influenza, and respiratory illnesses caused by the coronavirus. They also take part in the evaluation of lung cancer and lung involvement from diseases such as lupus. Administering the influenza vaccine is part of respiratory prevention.

When to seek care?

• A cough that won't go away or that brings up phlegm or blood.
• Shortness of breath, wheezing, or fatigue on exertion.
