Acute renal artery thrombosis is the sudden blockage, by a clot, of the artery that carries blood to a kidney. When the flow is interrupted, the kidney stops receiving the oxygen it needs and its function can be compromised quickly.

Symptoms that may appear: Sudden pain in the flank or back, blood in the urine, nausea and, at times, elevated blood pressure.
