I specialize in kidney care, both in its healthy state and when diseased, including the transplanted kidney and the kidney donor. My main goal is the prevention and treatment of chronic kidney disease in its five stages, to prevent patients from needing hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or transplant. My approach is thorough: I seek to exhaust all treatment options to prevent patients from reaching dialysis, always ensuring an accurate diagnosis and professional care. In severe cases, I strive to improve the situation in less than 3 months, and in mild cases, in less than 7 days. When dialysis or transplant treatment is necessary, I specialize in the follow-up and management of complications associated with these therapies, with the goal of improving my patients' quality of life. In transplant patients, my goal is to prevent and treat graft rejection, avoiding, as much as possible, that they have to depend on dialysis again. To achieve these goals, I perform a detailed evaluation at each visit, based on an extensive history, analysis of laboratory results (blood and urine), and special studies as needed. I complement all of this with the interpretation of kidney ultrasound results. Each patient is unique, so treatment must be individualized, especially in cases of kidney disease, which has five distinct stages and each requires special care. As a nephrologist, I also specialize in the treatment of systemic diseases (such as lupus, arthritis, Fabry disease, sepsis, cancer of any type, hypertension) and metabolic diseases (diabetes, elevated uric acid, dyslipidemia, among others) that can damage the kidneys. In addition, I adjust medication doses in patients with reduced kidney function (less than 60%).
